This year the work experience programme produced:
166 pupil applications for work experiences
96 interviews - all by employers
36 work placements provided by:
SCORE (Europe), Fifab, Purvis Group, CR Smith, Smith Anderson, Dynamic EMS, Lloyds Banking Group, Bragg, Grill 48, Fife Sports & Leisure Trust, Premier Inn, Active Fife and Shell.
Each pupil will receive employer feedback on their application, allowing them to leave school with a competitive CV. Furthermore, pupils who had an interview have now experienced that process and were given specific feedback by employers on how to improve.
S5 Employability Programme
The employability programme is in full flow with every S5 pupil completing their applications for Work Experience. The range of employers offering to take on Lochgelly Pupils is greater that ever. Interviews have taken place at Fife Sports & Leisure Trust, Purvis Group, CR Smith, Greenfold, FIFAB, Dynamic EMS and SCORE. With further interviews held at school for Active Schools, Smith Anderson, Grill 48, Community Use and Bragg.
The results of the interviews and allocation to placements will be announced on Wednesday 29th June 2016.
Senior Induction Day 2016
On Friday, pupils were welcomed back from exams to employer led workshops allowing pupils to develop key skills to gain employment when they leave school. Employers showed pupils how to tailor CVs and cover letters to specific jobs and gave advice on how to prepare effectively for interviews. Another part of the day included work to develop key skills as identified by employers, with Lochore Meadows provided an ideal venue to develop teamwork and interpersonal skills.
For this year group this is only the start of the programme, as over the coming weeks pupils will go through a realistic recruitment process for a work experience offered by local businesses. With over fifty to choose from, pupils will apply to a job advert, tailoring their CV and cover letter for the post. Each pupil will then receive feedback on their application before the next round of applicants being interviewed for the post. The programme concludes in a weeks work experience for the young person, adding to the young persons CV but most importantly providing a realistic experience in the world of work.
The Provost of the Kingdom of Fife, Jim Leishman, engaged with pupils of all ages providing inspiration and shared with them the importance of having a positive outlook and making good decisions. The School would like to thank the Provost and employers in the community for their continued support. Those involved on the day were: CR Smith, Smith Anderson, FIFAB, Purvis Group, Greenfolds, SCORE, Bragg and Lloyds Banking group.
